We knew this might be a concern so prior to even starting the project, we received approval. A fatwa has been written below expanding in more detail.

A little over a year, pre-production (script editing, casting, etc.) began in May 2024.
May - August 2024: Script prep
August - November 2024: Casting
Late November 2024 - January 2025: Recording
January - mid-February 2025: Editing
February - July 2025: Sound Design and Post-production

In short: copyright law. While the Quran itself is public domain, translations aren’t. We acquired the rights to the Yusuf Ali translation and were therefore able to use it to make this audiobook!

Many of them were awesome, but the most enjoyable was when Pharaoh is drowning. Michael actually drank water before delivering the line on one of the takes!

I’m a huge fan of Audible Originals and the amazing technical feats that go into producing them. I also noticed that dramatized Bibles were super popular and I thought, hmm, no one has done this level of dramatization for the Quran before… why don’t I! And the rest is history!
